Elizabeth I AR-MCr
Queen Elizabeth I was born in the Palace of Placentia in Greenwich, London, on September 7th, 1533. Elizabeth was heir to the throne despite the fact that she had an older sister, Mary. Mary was not to be queen due to the fact that Elizabeth's father, Henry VII, annulled his marriage with Mary's mother, Spanish princess Catharine of Aragon. Elizabeth was named for her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth of York. Mary and Elizabeth were not very close because Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, replaced Catharine of Aragon as queen. Elizabeth was twenty-five years old when she became Queen of England. This became her title after the death of her half-sister in 1558. She helped England escape from the rule of France and Spain and died at the age of 69 in 1603. If we could actually meet her, the first question we would ask would be, "Is it easy being Queen of England?"
